I stumbled on this really good article today about how money can’t really solve any of the issues that a plaguing the nationwide school system. The author is actually the mom of a another blog that I frequent. She has a ton of REALLY good arguments that have almost completely changed my views on what’s wrong with our school system.
I am also dismayed that the “education lottery” is remarkably top-heavy in giving funds to higher education, when we are not able to graduate more than half of our students. We have been, and remain, at the bottom of the heap when it comes to the results of this spending, and yet we spend more per pupil in educational expenditures than most of the Southeast, and much more than many successful school systems. Yet legislators and the public at large continue to think “more money” is the answer to the problems that continue to plague South Carolina schools.
